Honeycup is a glamorous bag consisting of two types of leather. The base is a midweight, oiled, black leather. It is my favorite type of leather to work with. It is soft , flexible, and has that lovely leather smell. I layered a sandy leather on top. The colors compliment each other like moonlight on Honeycup mushrooms.
I use the rough cuts of hide as inspiration for the shapes of the pieces I design. I used rough cuts on the lid and pockets of Honeycup.
Honeycup has a mushroom shaped lid that covers the main compartment. Two rings are stitched to the front of the lid. Slide a security strap through both rings and back through the bottom ring to secure.
The lid has a pocket on the inside. The lid pocket is asymmetrical. It is great for gloves or small hat.
The main compartment has a boxy opening due to the side panels. The side panels allow for the main compartment to expand. It will change shape depending on the contents of the bag. There is an inside and outside pocket.
Metal rings are used to adjust the strap and for aesthetic design. All the metal used matches.
Brown and black waxed thread is used throughout the piece. I punch every hole and stitch every stitch with my hands. If you look closely at the thread you can see it change colors as it is pulled up the seam.
Honeycup is full of details to discover. It is a durable, everyday wear art piece. Enjoy!
